Now, I am sure the cold pressed, raw, organic oil is much better for you, but I just can't fork over $10 for a small container of oil, yet. Let me get my feet wet and then I will revisit that idea.
My first use of the oil was oiling pulling. I did this more out of curiosity than the health reasons. I'll write more about this later.
My second use was more for Rhino, aka my daughter. I made oatmeal raisin cookies replacing the butter with the coconut oil. These are both Rhino's and my favorite cookie. How could I mess this up when I use the prepackaged mix?
Well, if you just use the same amount of oil as it said to use of butter, you will have really oily dough. I decided to just go with it. As I am scooping out the first sheet of cookies I saw the small print that said to use 1/3 cup instead of 1/2 cup if using veg oil. Oops! Still just going with it.
The flavor was the same. The texture was different. They were not as chewy as a typical oatmeal raisin cookie. But in all fairness, I haven't made cookies from the mix in a while, so can't say it was all the oil that made the difference. They were lighter.
Now, when you don't hear the timer go off, then you have over-done cookies. Thankfully it was only the second pan. (They are just really crispy.)
Would I do this again? Yes
Would I make a few modifications? Yes.
Will we eat all of the cookies? You bet your bottom dollar we will!
